Reed asks Forest Service to ready for RI wildfires
The Associated Press
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island's senior U.S. senator has asked the U.S. Forest Service to prepare to respond to wildfires as the state deals with an elevated risk of brush and forest fires.
Sen. Jack Reed wrote to the Forest Service on Thursday to urge it to "ready its resources" to respond to any fires.
The National Weather Service has issued a fire advisory for most of Rhode Island. The elevated fire risk is forecast for late Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
Reed, a Democrat, says forest and brush fires can be a major problem and that the federal government needs to be ready to assist state and local authorities if the need arises.
