U.S. Senator Jack Reed helps commemorate the lives lost in the bombing of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines HQ building in Beirut, Lebanon on October 23, 1983. Two Hunderd and Forty-One Marines, Sailors and Soldiers – including nine Rhode Islanders – were killed in the initial attack. 29 others died later as a result of injuries sustained in the bombing.
