Senator Reed, the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, attended the official christening of the USS Illinois submarine with First Lady Michelle Obama at the Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton, CT.
The USS Illinois (SSN-786) is the 13th Virginia Class nuclear submarine and is currently under construction at Electric Boat facilities in Groton. In June of 2014, Reed joined the First Lady for the keel laying ceremony at Electric Boat’s Quonset Point Shipyard, where construction on the vessel began.
