WASHINGTON-U.S. Senator Jack Reed today announced $265,000 to assist the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in creating a statewide network of Success Centers in order to prepare low-skilled youth and adults for high wage job training and higher education. Reed worked with the Rhode Island congressional delegation to secure the funds. A well educated population is vital to keeping Rhode Island economically competitive. This program is especially important for providing new opportunities to adults, who often have families to support, Reed stated. I am pleased that this funding will help CCRI continue to offer excellent programs for youth and adults to advance their skills and further their education. Each CCRI campus will host a center which will be connected to Rhode Islands school districts as well as adult basic education and GED providers. The centers will serve upwards of 10,000 residents.Reed, a member of the Senate Education Committee, helped secured the funding as part of the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education portion of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2005 Omnibus Appropriation bill.
