WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, after President Trump tweeted that he is firing U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Christopher Krebs for factually refuting the President’s false election conspiracy theories, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), an ex officio member of the Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement:

“This is an appalling move by President Trump.  He is firing Mr. Krebs out of petty vindictiveness.  He clearly wants to remove officials who are in a position to rebut his misinformation.  It’s part of a pattern in this dysfunctional Administration where people are routinely ousted for telling the truth and standing up for the Constitution.  His Republican enablers in Congress should be embarrassed and increasingly alarmed.  This is yet another example of President Trump putting his own misguided interests and vanity before the security of our nation.

“President Trump is still in denial.  But there is no getting around the fact that he lost the election fair and square and the results clearly show President-elect Biden won both the popular vote and in the Electoral College by a wide, significant, irrefutable margin.”
