WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Trump Administration took steps to revoke a scientific ‘endangerment finding’ that has long been the central basis for U.S. action to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Without the endangerment finding, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would be left with no legal basis to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) denounced the partisan move as “more reckless climate change denial from President Trump” and issued the following statement:

“This is a severe blow to public health, environmental health, and the health of our economy.

“Despite President Trump’s hot air, climate change is not a hoax and real Americans feel the real impacts each and every day, including increasingly intense storms, flooding, wildfire, and drought. Instead of more reckless climate change denial from President Trump, America must take urgent, concrete steps and make wise investments to reduce pollution.

“Once again, President Trump is failing to protect the people he serves. Revoking this finding will set our nation back, making solutions more expensive and harder to achieve.”
