WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, following reports that Saddam Hussein was found guilty, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), a member of the Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:Any time a tyrant is found guilty, it is good news. But despite this verdict, the attacks against our troops in Iraq continue and President Bush still hasnt articulated a plan to improve the situation. Saddam is gone, but Iraq remains in the grips of ethnic cleansing and chaotic violence. Justice will not be served for the Iraqi people if this verdict is not met with a concerted effort to end the violence in their country. Now is the time for the Iraqi government to step up and fill the void, confront the militias, and rebuild Iraqi society.
