Reed Salutes Speaker Nancy Pelosi for Outstanding Service to the Nation
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-12), the first and only woman ever elected to serve as Speaker of the House, announced her decision to serve out her current term and not seek reelection in 2026, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement:
“Speaker Pelosi has had a remarkable, trailblazing career and incredible record of achievement. She remains a formidable force and I know she will continue to tenaciously serve the people of San Francisco until her last day of office.
“Her strong conviction, steely resolve, and principled leadership helped guide passage of the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street reform, the American Rescue Plan, and many more consequential pieces of legislation.
“Undoubtedly there will be many more women who lead the U.S. House of Representatives in the future, but Nancy Pelosi will always be the first Madame Speaker. She broke that barrier and blazed a trail for others to follow. We are grateful for her service. She has helped make America a better place for all.”
