WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, after White House acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney announced that the United States plans to host next year’s G-7 Summit at President Trump’s Trump National Doral Miami resort, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

“This is outrageous, unethical, and shows willful disregard for the Constitution’s ban on the President receiving ‘emoluments’ from foreign governments.  He’s abusing the presidency to enrich himself and it’s appalling, especially for someone who claims to already be a billionaire.

“This is another example of President Trump putting his own personal benefit at the heart of U.S. foreign policy in ways big and small.  I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to condemn this type of soft corruption and help stamp it out before it spreads.”
