WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congress passed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) Technical Corrections Act of 2008, which includes $1.6 million U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) secured to repair Westerly's West Street Bridge.

Following final passage of the bill, Reed stated: "I am pleased that Congress passed the Highway Technical Corrections bill, which provides $1.6 million to repair the West Street bridge. The bridge is an important link to and from Westerly's North End and downtown area. This federal funding will also help improve the safety of the bridge for motorists and train traffic along the Northeast Corridor."

The U.S. House of Representatives approved the bill today and the Senate passed it on April 17, 2008. Now that it has been approved by Congress, the bill goes to the President's desk to be signed into law.
