WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approved the presidential nomination of Governor Gina M. Raimondo to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  The nomination was approved by a roll call vote of 21-3 and now advances to the full U.S. Senate for consideration and a vote.

U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), who introduced Governor Raimondo at her confirmation hearing before the committee, issued the following statement:

“This strong, bipartisan vote is a testament to Governor Raimondo’s abilities and her commitment to helping American workers and businesses recover and prosper.  I look forward to her confirmation by the full Senate and working with her in her new role as Secretary of Commerce.  She is a dynamic problem solver and leader who has the skill and experience to lead the Department of Commerce through a challenging time.  She will help President Biden get our economy working again for all Americans.

“I hope the full Senate will soon have the opportunity to vote on her nomination, and I am confident she will receive strong, bipartisan backing.”
