WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jack Reed, a senior member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, today issued the following statement on the passing of Paul Volcker, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve:

“Chairman Volcker was a true patriot who exemplified why an independent Fed Chair is not only important but also necessary for the long term health of the U.S. economy.  He was a trusted counselor whose wisdom, advice, and keen insight was invaluable to crafting the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law and in implementing and defending it for the benefit of working-class families.  We are saddened by his loss, but grateful for his many contributions to our nation.”
