PROVIDENCE, RI – U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement on the announced international agreement to address climate change reached today in Paris:

"This is a historic international agreement to responsibly reduce pollution and slow global climate change.

"Climate change poses a serious threat to our future and now, for the first time, two hundred countries around the world are pledging to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"This pact was years in the making and I commend President Obama for his leadership and commitment to bringing people together to help enact meaningful change.

"We still have a long way to go, but today’s historic agreement is a major step in the right direction."
