WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jack Reed, a senior member of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee issued the following statement today on President-elect Trump’s nomination of Dr. Ben Carson as his nominee to be the next U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):

“Dr. Carson is a renowned pediatric neurosurgeon with an admirable life story.  But HUD is an enormous federal agency that requires both experience and management skills.

“Dr. Carson seemed reluctant to accept this nomination, and President-elect Trump himself expressed concerns about Dr. Carson over the course of the Presidential race.

“Now that Dr. Carson has decided he wants to be HUD Secretary, I hope the committee will carefully examine his qualifications.  And I hope Dr. Carson will be honest and forthright about his record, and where he hopes to lead the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the future.”
