WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement on President Trump’s White House meeting with Argentina’s President Javier Milei to highlight a $20 billion U.S. taxpayer-funded bailout for the controversial Argentinian politician who is in a tight re-election race back home in Argentina:

“President Trump is more focused on bailing out Argentina than working to help Americans.

“Instead of doing the hard work of negotiating with Democrats to lower costs for Americans and prevent them from losing their health care, Donald Trump is taking $20 billion worth of taxpayer dollars to prop up a whacky right-wing Argentinian politician whose highly indebted foreign government has already taken dozens of bailouts from international banks. Argentina has defaulted on its debt three times just in the past 20 years, while President Milei’s political party has been plagued by corruption scandals. So this could end up being a costly, ill-advised handout from President Trump to President Milei.”
