WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after three children and three staff members were gunned down at a private school in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

“There have already been thirteen school shootings in 2023.  Every single one is a tragedy and the loss of innocent lives is unfathomable.  I am heartbroken for the parents of little ones whose lives were cut short by gun violence and devastated that another community has been shattered by the pain and trauma of a school-shooting.

“Republicans need to step up and help keep weapons of war off our streets.  There are commonsense steps we can take to reduce the prevalence of mass-shootings.

“I urge Congressional Republicans to work with Democrats on a bipartisan basis to help put an end to gun violence in our schools and on our streets.  No parent should have to endure the pain of losing a child like this.  We as a society can and must do better.”
