WASHINGTON The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) notified U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today that the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (RI DLT) is receiving $539,465 in Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) reserve training funds to assist workers who have lost their jobs find employment. RI DLT will use the funds to provide an array of services such as assessment, individual counseling, career planning, employment development, retraining, occupational skill training, job-readiness training, and adult education. The funding comes through the DOLs $55 million TAA reserve account. Congress appropriated $220 million for TAA for fiscal year (FY) 2005: $165 million in regular funds and the $55 million reserve. Rhode Island received $793,597 regular funding.Reed stated, With an economy that has not yet recovered, these TAA programs can provide assistance that allows workers to continue to provide for themselves and their families while receiving the training they need to find new jobs.
