WASHINGTON, DC – Ahead of a key Senate vote, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today urged his colleagues to protect Social Security and oppose the confirmation of Frank Bisignano, a downsizing specialist who President Donald Trump nominated to lead the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Mr. Bisignano is a former Wall Street executive who has aligned himself with Elon Musk’s so-called DOGE department and was exposed by a whistleblower for lying to the Senate Finance Committee about his involvement with DOGE since his nomination in December.

Customer service has already plummeted at the Social Security Administration under the Trump Administration and Senator Reed says Mr. Bisignano’s record of overseeing mass layoffs and branch closings in the private sector is proof that the Trump Administration intends to further undercut Social Security and make it harder for recipients and seniors to access the Social Security benefits they earned.

“Mr. Bisignano is Mr. Slash-and-Burn-Large-Scale-Layoffs.  He was chosen for the role precisely because Donald Trump wants to cut Social Security and if he is confirmed he will threaten the delivery of benefits for millions of hardworking Americans who have paid into the system and make it harder for them to access their retirement savings,” said Senator Reed.  “If Mr. Bisignano is confirmed, then those who support his nomination will be responsible for future SSA branch office closures, delays, mass layoffs, and poor customer service.  His DOGE allies have already rampaged through the Social Security Administration’s files and it is very clear what he plans to do.  This is a clear choice and those who vote to confirm Mr. Bisignano can’t try to claim they don’t know what he plans to do in terms of gutting the Social Security Administration and dismantling Social Security itself.”
