After working for years to upgrade Rhode Island's clean water infrastructure and deliver federal funding to help improve the water quality in Narragansett Bay and local waters, Senator Reed joined the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (NBEP) and a distinguished panel of speakers to release the 2017 "State of Narragansett Bay and Its Watershed" report. NBEP brought together more than 50 practitioners from universities, organizations, and agencies to collaborate on this report. Senator Reed, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, led efforts to establish and fund the Southeast New England Program (SNEP) for Coastal Watershed Restoration in 2014. Since then, Reed has led efforts to appropriate over $19 million in SNEP funds to contribute to the restoration, protection, and preservation of the Narragansett Bay Watershed and other surrounding watersheds in the southeast New England region.
