Senator Reed helps break ground on construction of the new I-95 Providence Viaduct, which was built in 1964 and must be replaced due to deterioration.  The Providence Viaduct is a critical part of the I-95 corridor carrying over 220,000 vehicles per day.  Last year, Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation helped secure $10 million in federal funding for phase 1 of reconstruction of the Providence Viaduct, which will consist of the construction of a new bridge carrying I-95 southbound and new and widened exits for Atwells Avenue, Routes 6 and 10, Downtown, and to the Providence Place Mall.
