WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jack Reed today announced that he has invited Rhode Island Foundation President and CEO Neil Steinberg of Pawtucket to be his guest for the president’s 2015 State of the Union address next week in Washington, DC.

Mr. Steinberg is president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation, a charitable, community foundation that in 2013 granted more than $31 million to organizations addressing the most pressing issues and needs of Rhode Island’s diverse communities.  Through leadership, fundraising and grantmaking activities, often in partnership with individuals and organizations, the Foundation is helping Rhode Island reach its true potential.

“Neil really personifies the values of service and citizenship.  He is dedicated to Rhode Island and passionate about finding innovative ways to accelerate economic progress and help make a difference.  I am honored to have him as my guest,” said Reed.

“I am very pleased to join Senator Reed at the State of the Union address and honored to represent the Rhode Island philanthropic and nonprofit communities, which are working hand-in-hand with Rhode Island businesses to energize our economy and help our state reach its full potential,” said Neil Steinberg.

“The State of the Union is a time for the president to lay out his blueprint for the year.  I look forward to the speech and I hope Congress will seize this opportunity to work in a bipartisan fashion and with a renewed focus on improving our economy, investing in education, transportation, and workforce development, and ensuring that all Americans benefit from the economic recovery,” added Reed.

Mr. Steinberg will travel to Washington, DC on January 20 and join Senator Reed and other lawmakers and invited guests for dinner in the U.S. Capitol before attending the President’s State of the Union speech, which takes place in the U.S. House of Representatives chamber.
