WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, after the Washington Post released audio of President Donald Trump pressuring Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State to “find” him over 11,000 ballots to overturn the results of his electoral defeat to President-elect Joe Biden, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement:

“This crooked phone call represents a direct attack on our democracy.  Pressuring a state elected official to doctor election results is beyond immoral, it is a stunning betrayal of the American people that jeopardizes their Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.  President Trump lost.  That’s not at issue. Every state certified its results.  There’s no proof to his wild and dangerous conspiracy theories.  It’s over, plain and simple.

“For the good of our country, Congressional Republicans need to stop indulging and abetting this type of tyrannical behavior.  Elected officials must condemn, not condone corruption.”
