Reed, Langevin Tour Construction Site for New West Warwick Senior Center
WEST WARWICK- U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) and U.S. Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) toured the construction site for a new Senior and Community Center in the Arctic neighborhood of West Warwick. During the Congressional budget debate Reed successfully secured $200,000 and Langevin secured $72,000 to help with the construction of the Center. The Senior and Community Center will provide up to 40 units of affordable housing and expansion of services to elderly and children with special needs. The project is the cornerstone of a dramatic beautification effort that will provide a stimulus for property improvements in the area. The new, state-of-the-art facility will enhance the lives of the centers members while helping to enhance the community of West Warwick, Reed stated. The center is part of an excellent plan to revitalize the Arctic neighborhood while improving services for its residents. I am proud to have worked in cooperation with Congressman Langeving to support a new facility that will benefit West Warwick and its seniors."The West Warwick Senior Center is far more than a meeting place," said Congressman Langevin. "This Center is a source of vital community-based support that helps older citizens in West Warwick remain independent. Through an on-site health clinic, rent assistance, emergency groceries and meals, utility payments, transportation, and more, the Center helps seniors remain engaged in their community. Additionally, the dedicated staff at the senior center works tirelessly to provide these and other services for West Warwick's elderly, and they deserve a new facility to best provide for their elderly neighbors. I would also like to thank my colleague Senator Jack Reed for his efforts in the United States Senate to ensure that West Warwick would be provided these federal resources to construct a facility that fulfills the needs of seniors."
