WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) commended U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) after Leader Reid announced that he would not seek re-election in 2016:

“It has been an honor to serve alongside Harry Reid.  He is an extraordinary leader whose legislative skills and boundless capacity for hard work are unmatched.

“Harry Reid always put Nevada and working families at the top of the Senate’s agenda.  While he may speak softly, what he says really resonates.

“Harry has made an indelible mark on the Senate, and his journey from a hard-scrabble desert cabin with no indoor plumbing, to serving on the Capitol police force, to the leadership of the United States Senate is a great American story.

“His distinguished career has been punctuated by an unyielding commitment to equality, fairness, and opportunity for all Americans.

“Today, the Senator from Searchlight shines as a beacon for all those who come from humble beginnings and strive to make something of themselves while also making a positive difference for their community.

“His steady, unselfish leadership will continue to help guide our nation in the years ahead, and I wish him and Landra much happiness as they plan for a well-deserved retirement in 2016 and beyond.”
