Reed Statement on “Unusual” Prisoner Transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell
WASHINGTON, DC – After Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in recruiting and trafficking minors for sex, was moved to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Texas this week, shortly after meeting with President Trump’s Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement:
“This appears to be a highly unusual prison transfer. Sexual predators shouldn’t be afforded preferential treatment. President Trump needs to come clean about his past personal relationship with Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell.
“We now know that after the Attorney General informed President Trump that he was all over the Epstein files, he changed his tune. He dispatched his former personal defense attorney and now high-ranking DOJ lawyer to meet privately meet with Ms. Maxwell. Days later, Ms. Maxwell appears to be getting special treatment and President Trump continues to refuse to rule out a full pardon for her. Why?
“The Republican Party should send the President a clear message that it’s time to release all of the Epstein files. President Trump said he would release the them, he campaigned on releasing them, and now he appears to be doing everything he can to suppress them.”
