WASHINGTON, DC - Tonight, the full U.S. Senate voted to confirm Rhode Island’s Assistant Attorney General Aaron L. Weisman to lead the U.S. Attorney’s office for Rhode Island.  The Trump Administration tapped Mr. Weisman for the position in October, and he received backing from Rhode Island’s U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse.

“Mr. Weisman has the experience to effectively lead the U.S. Attorney’s office for Rhode Island.  I am confident that he will provide strong, steady leadership in this role,” said Senator Reed.

“I'm pleased that the Senate has confirmed Aaron Weisman as our state's lead federal prosecutor.  Mr. Weisman's record at the Attorney General’s office is exemplary, his personality is caring and thoughtful, I enjoyed working with him, and I am confident he will serve the people of Rhode Island with distinction as our U.S. Attorney,” said Senator Whitehouse.

Once he is sworn in, Mr. Weisman may serve a four year term, replacing acting U.S. Attorney Richard B. Myrus.

Mr. Weisman formerly served as an Assistant Attorney General and the Chief of the Rhode Island Attorney General’s criminal appeals unit.  He previously served as a special assistant attorney general in the criminal appeals unit.  A graduate of Brandeis University, Mr. Weisman received his J.D. from Cardozo School of Law.

There are 93 U.S. Attorneys nationwide (one in Rhode Island) who are charged with enforcing federal criminal laws.
